About the Project

Overview

The Southern Boulevard Bridge Replacement Project will replace the existing bascule bridge and tide relief bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway and the Lake Worth Lagoon between West Palm Beach and Palm Beach. The existing bridges, constructed in 1950, carry two lanes of traffic, with no bike lanes and narrow sidewalks. The replacement bridges will include one 12-foot travel lane in each direction, wider sidewalks, bike lanes, traffic railing barrier, drainage system improvements, and decorative lighting. Signalization improvements will be incorporated at the intersections of Southern Boulevard/Washington Road and Southern Boulevard/Flagler Drive. New signing and pavement markings will be installed throughout the project. A temporary bridge is maintaining traffic while the replacement drawbridge is being constructed. The tide relief bridge will be constructed in phases to maintain traffic to/from the Town of Palm Beach during construction. All construction work is within FDOT Right-of-Way.
